Invalidating your car insurance can cost you

We all have to have a valid car insurance policy to drive the vehicle on a road and even cars that are not driven but kept on a public road need to be insured. There are two main types of car insurance – Third party fire and theft and fully comprehensive. The main difference is that third party will only cover the costs of repairs to another vehicle should you be involved in an accident so therefore any damage to your own vehicle will need to be paid for by you. Comprehensive covers any damage to both parties but often there is an excess that you will need to pay when you make a claim.

There are many factors that can actually invalidate your car insurance, and you may not find this out until you need to claim. Not telling an insurance company of modifications to a vehicle is one of the main reasons that insurance claims are rejected. Even adding a spoiler, different exhaust or wheels can make your policy void if you have not informed the insurance company. Prior to making any changes to a car, call you insurance company first and get a quote to see if there will be an increase in your premium should you make modifications.
