The Formula 1 2020 Calendar has been run through the mill do to the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally, it boasted a record-breaking 22 races across five continents, starting with the traditional Australia season opener. However, things have changed drastically with many races being dropped and some new events being added in for the first time ever.
Sunday, the 9th of August saw the long anticipated 70th Anniversary Grand Prix which had an unexpected ending. Amazingly Max Verstappen, The Red Bull driver came from fourth on the grid to first place, beating the Mercedes pair, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas who both had tyre issues. Both Hamilton and Bottas had pulled off an incredible practice run two days prior, beating the nearest opposition by a full eight-tenths of a second. Unfortunately for the pair, they were not so lucky this time.
Currently the number of scheduled F1 races are only at 13, all in Europe but F1 are planning to try and end the season in the Middle East with two races in Bahrain, followed by the title decider in Abu Dhabi. This would bump the calendar up to 16 races, which would ensure F1 meets their contractual requirements with TV broadcasters. There is also the possibility of Vietnam and Malaysia being added to the events calendar.
