Driving in the snow and ice is tricky and demanding, so here are a few simple tips you can use to make things easier on yourself. The first is a simple, common sense point – allow yourself more time. Set off early, as your progress will be slower and rushing leads to rash decisions, which equal accidents. Next, you may wish to consider lowering the PSI in your tyres, as that will give you more grip. Try to stay in as high a gear as possible, and be gentle with the throttle. Both will reduce wheel-spin. Try to plan in advance to reduce your need to brake, and where braking, do so steadily and gently – slamming on the anchors will only cause you to slide. Try to brake before you corner rather than on a corner, as you’ll keep control better. Last of all, know how to handle a skid – it may seem counter-intuitive, but you turn into a skid.
